Legacy air circuit breaker and control accessories

THE REQUIREMENT

Hyundai circuit breaker control components hand carried from Korea to Singapore and shipped onward to Lagos, Nigeria under a tight turnaround.

An urgent electrical supply requirement

MSACHKL supported an urgent Hyundai air circuit breaker component requirement comprising a HATS-T undervoltage trip device rated AC 200 to 240 V and an LRC coil. The older parts were no longer readily available through normal supply channels and were difficult to find. The requirement therefore involved locating scarce legacy components as well as accelerating their delivery to Lagos, Nigeria.

At the time, our engineer was attending training at the Hyundai plant in Korea. The components were hand carried from Korea to Singapore, then shipped onward to Lagos, Nigeria within the tight turnaround available.

Two components with different operating roles

An air circuit breaker combines the main switching mechanism with control and protection accessories. The undervoltage trip function responds to an inadequate supply voltage according to the installed arrangement. LRC refers to the latch release coil, an accessory associated with the breaker mechanism.

These functions should not be confused with one another. The UVT device rating identifies its electrical supply requirement, while the LRC coil must be matched to its own applicable specification and breaker configuration. The UVT rating should not automatically be applied to the separate coil.

The route was part of the solution

The Korea to Singapore leg used the engineer’s existing travel movement to bring the items forward. Singapore then became the onward dispatch point for Lagos, Nigeria. The supply route therefore connected equipment availability with an immediate international transport opportunity.

For an urgent breaker component requirement, the logistics plan is only useful if the component reference is correct. Breaker family, accessory identity, supply voltage and installation arrangement are important inputs when assessing an alternative or replacement item.

The execution value

This project demonstrates an expedited component supply route involving technical personnel and more than one international movement. The completed scope brought the difficult to find items forward for supply in Lagos through a Korea to Singapore to Nigeria route.

For similar urgent electrical requirements, send the breaker nameplate, accessory labels, part references, photographs and delivery window. Those details help establish the equipment requirement alongside the fastest practical shipment route.

Legacy equipment changes the supply challenge

Older switchgear remains in service long after individual accessory lines become difficult to obtain. The issue is not simply finding a component that looks similar: its operating function, control supply and mechanical interface must suit the installed breaker. A current replacement unit may have a different mounting arrangement or control architecture.

For this requirement, the scarcity of the older Hyundai components made availability a central constraint. The supply route had to connect a suitable legacy item with the vessel’s location in Lagos, rather than depend on ordinary catalogue availability near the destination.

UVT and LRC are not interchangeable functions

The HATS-T UVT device in this order was rated AC 200 to 240 V. That accessory belongs to the undervoltage trip arrangement. The LRC is a latch release coil associated with the breaker’s operating mechanism. Hyundai’s instruction manual identifies these as separate internal accessories.

Control voltage is distinct from the breaker’s main circuit rating. Matching a spare against the main switchboard voltage alone is therefore insufficient. Part references, accessory labels and wiring information matter alongside the breaker model, particularly when supply involves an older equipment generation.

A direct personnel movement followed by onward shipment

Our engineer’s training attendance at the Hyundai plant in Korea created the opportunity to hand carry the items to Singapore. We then shipped onward for supply in Lagos. This connected an existing technical travel movement with the urgent delivery requirement instead of relying entirely on a conventional dispatch lead time.

The value of the project lay in combining scarce component availability with a workable transport sequence. The confirmed outcome is the supply of the identified items in Lagos under a tight turnaround; no invented hour count is needed to explain why the route mattered.
